Pure Gas Privacy Policy
Pure Gas is an iOS app developed by Jeffrey Jackson ("I", "me"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Pure Gas, its widgets, and its CarPlay and Siri features.
The short version
Pure Gas collects no data. There are no accounts, no logins, and no email sign-ups. There is no analytics, telemetry, tracking, or advertising, and no third-party SDKs that do any of those things. I don't run any servers for the app, so nothing you do in Pure Gas is sent to me. The App Store privacy label for Pure Gas is "Data Not Collected."
Location
If you allow it, Pure Gas uses your device's location to sort stations by distance and to calculate trip range. This happens on your device. Your location is never sent to me, and the app doesn't keep a log of where you've been. The only places it saves are the start and destination of trips you choose to save, which stay on your device. You can change or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings.
Network requests the app makes
- Station data. Pure Gas downloads the public station list from pure-gas.org. This is the same file for every user and the request doesn't include your location or any identifier. As with any download, pure-gas.org's servers see an ordinary web request, such as your IP address.
- Routes and place search. Trip planning and destination search use Apple MapKit services. Apple processes those requests under Apple's privacy policy.
Things that only happen when you choose them
- Directions. When you ask for directions to a station, Pure Gas opens the maps app you choose (Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze) and passes it the station's location and, for some apps, your current location. From there, that app's privacy policy applies.
- Report an Issue. This opens the station's page on pure-gas.org in your browser. pure-gas.org is run independently and has its own privacy policy.
- Calling a station. This opens your phone's dialer with the station's number.
- CSV export. Your fuel records are only exported when you choose to export them, and only to the place you pick.
Data stored on your device
Your fuel and MPG records, vehicles, saved trips, favorite stations, hidden stations, and settings are stored only on your device. The app shares them with its own widgets, CarPlay, and Siri features through an on-device App Group. They are not uploaded to me or anyone else. Deleting the app deletes this data.
Fill-up reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. No push notification service is used.
Purchases
The one-time PureGas Pro unlock and optional tips are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. I don't receive your name, payment details, or Apple Account information.
Third-party code
Pure Gas's only third-party dependency is ZIPFoundation, an open-source library used to unzip the station data. It makes no network requests.
Children
Pure Gas is not directed at children, and because it collects no data, it collects no data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the app ever starts collecting data, this policy and the App Store privacy label will be updated before that change ships.
